The "Palazzo del Podestą" also called Broletto Palace, stands
on one of the shortest sides of Piazza delle Erbe.It shows its rear on it, while its front
looks onto the near "Piazza Broletto".
The Palace dates back to Middle Ages, it was built infact in 1227.
It had been the seat of the local city council for a long time.
Theen the Duke Ludovico Gonzaga had it transformed by Luca Fancelli. Today , in fact, the
"Palazzo del Podestą shows two styles:
the first simple but at the same time rough an d powerful, and the second influenced by
the Renaissance art which had flourished in Tuscany. On the side looking on to Piazza
Broletto there is a niche with the statue ofVirgil.
