MANTUA PLAN. MUNICIPALITY AND MYNET ANNOUNCE: FIBER OPTICS TO BE INSTALLED IN ALL MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOLS IN THE CITY BY THE END OF 2020
MANTUA PLAN. MUNICIPALITY AND MYNET ANNOUNCE: FIBER OPTICS TO BE INSTALLED IN ALL MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOLS IN THE CITY BY THE END OF 2020
11/13/2020
MANTOVA –
Thanks to the collaboration between public and private sectors, the project has begun that will see Mynet, a Mantua-based excellence, equip all primary and secondary schools in the city of Mantua with a fiber optic connection with a symmetric 1 Gbit/s bandwidth, both upload and download, by the end of 2020.
This is an extraordinary initiative that the Mantuan telecommunications operator
Mynet
wanted to carry out with an investment of 43,000 euros dedicated to the schools in its territory. The next step will focus on schools throughout the province. Mynet lays no less than 1,300 km of fiber optic cable each year, even in areas far from urban centers.
The agreement, whose final details were defined yesterday in a meeting held at the Town Hall with the presence of Mynet’s General Manager Giovanni Zorzoni, Mantua Mayor Mattia Palazzi, and councilors Adriana Nepote and Serena Pedrazzoli, provides that by the end of this year the 21 high schools and 3 middle schools in the city will be equipped with a powerful, stable, and secure 1 Giga internet connection for both download and upload.
The pandemic has highlighted, both for families and schools, the need to connect to the network faster, without interruptions, and without limits. Distance learning requires schools to manage large amounts of data through platforms capable of supporting online lessons with dozens of students connected simultaneously and other functions necessary for teaching.
«I thank Mynet for putting itself at the service of its community on a strategic front such as the right to education,» says Mantua Mayor
Mattia Palazzi
. «Especially during a period where this right is not guaranteed due to restrictions to counter the spread of the virus and severe infrastructural inadequacies, such as the availability of a powerful and secure internet connection. Even in this case, timeliness is essential, which is why we asked Mynet not only to step up to provide this technology to our schools as part of the Mantua Plan but also to do it by the end of the year. An important project that responds to today's needs while also being a step forward toward the school of tomorrow.»
«School digitalization is a direct consequence of the health crisis we are experiencing and the resulting increased need for connectivity,» explains Mynet’s General Manager,
Giovanni Zorzoni
. «However, this intervention is not an end in itself but a starting point for the future: the next step planned
in the coming four months
is
the completion of true fiber optic connections for all schools in the province of Mantua, big and small, to provide each with a symmetric 1Gbit/s connection, aiming to make the province of Mantua the first and only one in Italy where all schools have extremely high speed
. The future belongs to high-performance ultra-broadband networks, and the infrastructure we have built in ten provinces in Northern Italy, particularly in Mantua, meets the real needs of the territories, exactly and concretely when needed: this is the social purpose of our company.»
“We bring fiber where others cannot reach,” is the company's slogan, widespread throughout Northern Italy, which this time achieves a crucial objective:
24 city schools connected
directly to the DWDM network, along with the replacement of 14 old multi-mode fiber optic cables laid in the early 2000s with single-mode fiber optic cables, a total investment of 43,000 euros and a potential user base of thousands (students, teachers, and school staff).
Mynet, for its part, carries out
a large-scale intervention
, born from the forced digital literacy imposed by the pandemic and the resulting need to support connectivity requirements essential for delivering education to students and teachers. There are two types of interventions carried out by the company depending on the existing infrastructure: laying new fiber optic cables suitable for ultra-broadband connection within existing ducts with termination, jointing, and testing, or, in more complex cases, new infrastructure extension consisting of excavation, laying new ducts and manholes, and subsequent insertion of fiber optic cables, also with termination, jointing, and testing. Schools have been connected at 1Gbit/s but through logical and optical channels at 10Gbit/s, allowing scalable speeds up to 10Gbit/s symmetric in the coming years without further interventions.
The project provides connectivity services to public high schools across the city, allowing uninterrupted online teaching, handling large amounts of data, and offering stable, high-speed browsing. Specifically, the schools connected to Mynet's fiber optic network are:
