PORTO MANTOVANO – One of the “side effects” of Covid has been the impact on telecommunication networks, which have been heavily stressed in recent months by a growing number of requests for internet connections to work, study, or simply spend time online. Porto Mantovano was no exception: slow internet was one of the most annoying problems reported by citizens, who struggled with intermittent connectivity, poor ADSL, and unstable wireless connections. A critical situation that Mynet is now addressing by bringing its best fiber optics “all the way to the home” (FTTH – Fiber To The Home), with performance of up to 300 Mbit/s download and 100 Mbit/s upload. But this is only a starting point – the telecommunications operator’s headquarters announced – because by 2021 speeds will reach up to 1 Gbit/s, on par with the connections available in the largest Italian cities. Fundamental for Porto Mantovano was the role of private citizens: the project in the area started thanks to a resident of Via Don Marino Cani, who initially involved ten families, already served by fiber optic service since last spring. Now the goal is the new residential area of Via Marco Biagi, a very upscale zone unfortunately lacking connectivity. Numerous subscriptions and requests collected by the Mantua-based internet provider in recent weeks have led Mynet staff to extend its super-fast fiber optic network also to Via Calipari, Strada Dosso, Via Bersaglieri d’Italia, and Via Torino, where the first connections will be made in February.
