TOURISM IS 4.0 IN CANAZEI AND CAMPITELLO

The project lasted 8 years and cost over 300 thousand euros. 15 km of cables were laid in the two municipalities

More than fifty accommodation and tourist services are now connected to Mynet's ultra-broadband network.

CANAZEI, September 24, 2024. In Canazei and Campitello di Fassa, the tourism industry is 4.0, with over 50 facilities connected to the ultra-broadband network, including hotels, ski lifts, and other services for visitors and residents.

In June, a massive territory infrastructure project led by Mynet, the leading company in Northern Italy for fiber optic connectivity, was completed. It started in Canazei in 2016 and continued in the municipality of Campitello di Fassa. Eight years of work concentrated in just four months (April-May and October-November) to avoid impacting the tourist season and take advantage of favorable weather conditions for underground digging.

This work was made possible thanks to the partnership between Mynet, the Municipality of Canazei, the Municipality of Campitello di Fassa, with the support of Confcommercio Trentino and Gestor, organizations that bring together the interests of tourism entrepreneurs and support their development at the provincial level.

"Today we officially launch a project in which we believed strongly, investing time, expertise, and over 300,000 euros, which saw the activation of more than fifty fiber connections for local businesses, previously served by copper cables with a maximum speed of 4 or 5 megabits per second. Thanks to the installation of over 15 kilometers of fiber cables, these businesses, whether hotels, ski lifts, or personal services, can now rely on a connectivity of up to 1 gigabit per second, representing a significant technological leap," said Luca Legittimo, CEO of Mynet.

"It all started by addressing the needs of the Sviluppo Incremento Turistico Canazei (SITC), which required cutting-edge digital infrastructure to support the company's digital transformation. In collaboration with the Municipality of Canazei, which I thank for their cooperation and availability, an agreement was signed in 2016 to use the existing public lighting tubes to insert fiber optic cables, minimizing soil disruption to preserve the tourist environment as much as possible," explained Simone Sponza, Area Manager Trentino of Mynet.

One of the first facilities to be connected to the ultra-broadband network as early as January 2017 was SITC, a company that manages an important part of the ski lifts and slopes of the Upper Val di Fassa. The project then expanded to the nearby municipality of Campitello di Fassa, with work starting in September 2023, suspended in October due to early frost, and resumed in May, with 14 accommodation structures connected to high-speed broadband. Further interventions are planned soon in both municipalities to complete the last connections.

"This was a project of great professional satisfaction, especially given the particular tourist and landscape context," commented Omar Vacchelli, Mynet Infrastructure Manager. "We worked with challenging solutions to be as non-invasive as possible on the environment and less impactful on residents, tourists, and economic activities, aligning with the tourist season and weather conditions. To speed up work in the tight time window available, we deployed multiple specialized technical teams working simultaneously. As someone who loves the mountains, it was a very rewarding task."

From a technical standpoint, Mynet has built a fiber optic backbone connecting Canazei and Campitello, as well as a highly capillary network, including pedestrian and cycling paths, which could be used to implement video surveillance and Wi-Fi services in the two municipalities. This project brings deep innovation to the area, benefiting residents, tourists, and businesses.

"We are satisfied," said Luca Moschini from Confcommercio Trentino, present at the press conference with Stefano Balista and Greta Prezzi from the Marketing Office, "with this project, which represents a model worth following: first, a significant number of hospitality and service businesses are now connected to high-speed internet, enabling further service development and improved customer quality. It also highlights private initiative, companies that truly know how to network and work for the benefit of the region. This method, when possible, should be recognized and appreciated because it enables territorial innovation, even when public administration, for various reasons, cannot intervene. Lastly, I would like to emphasize, in addition to the competence and professionalism of Mynet, the role played by our association, Confcommercio Trentino, which is sensitive to the needs of businesses and naturally acts as a 'facilitator' and catalyst for positive energy in the region for the benefit of both businesses and the entire social fabric."

"The role of an administration" – said the Mayor of Canazei Giovanni Bernard"is also to provide its territory and local businesses with innovative infrastructure, including digital ones, that allow them to remain competitive in the market. I thank Mynet for their collaboration."

"We are carrying out numerous projects in collaboration with Mynet" – said Ivo Bernard, Mayor of Campitello di Fassa"for the benefit of the area and its activities. Today, fast, reliable, and stable connectivity is a fundamental factor for the well-being and development of our town."
