INCREASINGLY DIGITISED AND EFFICIENT RESCUE AND ASSISTANCE

New partnership signed between Garda Volunteers and Mynet

Salò, 19 September 2024. Mynet, a leading company in ultra-fast fiber optic connectivity, and Gruppo Volontari del Garda - a unique organization at the national level in the rescue and emergency sector - have joined forces to optimize a service that has already achieved excellence.

This agreement was presented this morning at the association’s headquarters by GVG President Elia Samuelli, who has led the organization since 2023, and Mynet CEO Luca Legittimo.

Mynet will provide free connectivity to the central headquarters on Via Enrico Fermi in Salò for the next two years, with a significant speed increase to 1 Gbit per second (the previous speed was 100 Mbit per second).

“The possibility of having super-fast connectivity in our daily operations, both for emergency situations and scheduled interventions, is an extra security that allows us to carry out our delicate work with more peace of mind”, explained President Samuelli - A stable and secure ultra-fast connection puts us in a position to provide a faster telemedicine service, clearer contact with users, and clearer, uninterrupted phone lines. Last but not least, it means saying goodbye to annoying bandwidth issues when sending documentation via email to the relevant authorities, faster browsing on institutional websites necessary for our activities, and a more extensive use of cloud services, which until now we did not have access to, allowing us to have a more functional and redundant IT system.”

“As in companies, the use of new technologies is a must for us, and with them the evolution of our entire IT system. Being able to use fiber optic connectivity directly inside our headquarters is a fundamental piece for staying up to date with new technologies and improving our activities in service of the territory”, added Armando Zanotti, the association’s IT manager - Having a local partner like Mynet with whom we can communicate directly, without going through call centers, is extremely important.”

“We are proud to support this historic third-sector organization and are happy to be increasingly present in the Brescia area, providing our support to local authorities and associations that serve the community”, commented Mynet CEO Legittimo.

The telecommunications company, originally from Mantua and now established with its own infrastructure throughout northern Italy, started investing in Salò about ten years ago by laying a fiber optic backbone (the central part of the telecommunications network, comparable to a supporting column) along the western Gardesana road, and later expanding into industrial districts and artisan zones. Today, Mynet is the only ICT operator that boasts its own ring network around Lake Garda.

The Gruppo Volontari del Garda, founded 40 years ago initially by a group of 12 young people with the goal of providing rescue and assistance to the population, now operates mainly in the Brescia area of the Gardesana and Valsabbia, but it also extends across the entire national territory when needed. GVG has become a multispecialist organization capable of operating and providing the necessary rescue services in health and disaster emergencies of any kind and in any situation, operating daily from the depths of the lake to the steepest mountain peaks, with over 200 active and operational volunteers.

Every day, H24, at least 40 volunteers are on duty, with an operational commitment of about 320 hours, 30 interventions of various kinds, and 1000 kilometers traveled.

The presentation of the new collaboration was also an opportunity to take stock of the 2023 activity: “Last year, our volunteers working at the fixed headquarters in Salò, the Gargnano branch, and the mobile unit in Toscolano Maderno and Sirmione (active only in the summer months) carried out 2599 emergency medical interventions, assisted in 283 events, and completed 1826 scheduled transports. These are the data from the health sector, but GVG's interventions, including firefighting, technical rescue, and the divers' unit, brought the total to 6027 interventions. The activity is constantly growing, as shown by the data for 2024 as of August 31: our Emergency Ambulances have completed 1938 interventions, we provided medical assistance at 248 events and festivals, and conducted 1437 scheduled transports across Italy and abroad. The firefighting and technical rescue sector carried out 124 assists for events or fire safety surveillance, along with several interventions during disasters, while the divers' unit was involved for months in the search for Chiara Lindl on Lake Iseo, bringing the total to 4966 interventions as of August 31”, summarized Samuelli.
