TELECOMMUNICATIONS COMPANY MYNET LAUNCHES WORLD'S FIRST 50G PON TECHNOLOGY FOR MICRO-ENTERPRISES

After achieving a European record in 2022, Mynet sets a new milestone: the first operator in the world to commercially launch 50G PON fiber, now available for micro-enterprises in Milan’s City Life, Portello districts, and the city of Mantua

After being the first operator in Europe to test, also through a live public demo, the 50G PON technology on a real network in 2022, and the first company in the world to carry out a live Internet speed test, Mynet now achieves another Italian world-first: the commercial launch of 50G PON technology, the world’s most advanced ultra-high-performance connectivity, finally in its “production-ready” trimodal version — supporting simultaneously the current 2.5G and 10G technologies.

The telecommunications operator specializing in fiber-optic connectivity, founded in Mantua 30 years ago and now a major TelCo player in Northern Italy, is bringing this new technology out of the labs, with an offer aimed at micro-enterprises with extreme bandwidth and low-latency needs, which will be available in the City Life and Portello districts of Milan and in the city of Mantua.

After the success of our trials, we decided to push the boundaries of connectivity even further by being the first in the world to launch this technology. Italian micro-enterprises can no longer be left behind compared to major international players: with 50G PON, Mynet offers them connectivity superior to any other option on the market,” says Giovanni Zorzoni, General Manager of Mynet.

Mynet’s world-first 50G PON technology enables three simultaneous transmission capacities on the same optical fiber (50G symmetric, 10G symmetric, and 2.5/1G asymmetric) and is the only one that can upgrade pre-existing FTTH networks without affecting current customers using 10G and 2.5G speeds.

This technology opens up unprecedented opportunities for businesses, public institutions, and network operators, guaranteeing next-generation connectivity without the need to modify existing fiber infrastructures,” explains Zorzoni. “50G PON represents a turning point for organizations managing large data volumes, using large-scale cloud computing, and needing real-time enterprise backups. But for us, it’s more than that: not only the prestige of being world pioneers, but also yet another demonstration that a mid-sized company can make a difference, delivering superior-quality networks capable of redefining standards of speed and reliability.”

The company’s goal, after years of massive investment in research and development of new technological solutions, is to gradually extend the service across its entire proprietary network — that is, over the company’s more than 32,000 kilometers of infrastructure spanning Lombardy, Veneto, Trentino-Alto Adige, and Emilia-Romagna.

Why is this offer dedicated to micro-enterprises?

The micro-enterprise market is vast and often overlooked by large operators, yet it is crucial for Italy’s economy and society. Contrary to the stereotype that sees them as resistant to change, many micro-enterprises are embracing digital transformation — for now, mainly through migration to the cloud. But the availability of ultra-high, symmetrical Internet speeds, with optimized traffic routes ensured by our company towards both national and international cloud providers, makes possible those applications once promised by 5G — promises that went unfulfilled due to major mobile operators’ failure to deploy a true millimeter-wave 5G, which requires significant investments that never materialized. In its initial rollout, any new technology faces limited availability of devices and resources. Mynet, mindful of its grassroots entrepreneurial history and consistent with its vision of corporate social responsibility, has therefore decided to start providing 50G network services with an offer designed — under especially favorable conditions — precisely for micro-enterprises ready to bet on digital transformation.”

Already in 2022, Mynet was the only European operator to have tested this technology on a real network, outside of a lab, also carrying out a live Internet speed test in front of a press conference of journalists at the University of Mantua.
