MANTUA IS THE FIRST CITY IN THE WORLD TO HAVE THE HYPERFAST 50G PON TECHNOLOGY
Mynet is the Italian capital of speed.

After achieving the European milestone as the first operator to publicly test the 50G PON on a real network, with a live demonstration on December 22, 2022, at the University of Mantua in collaboration with the Faculty of Computer Engineering and the Municipality of Mantua, Mynet now sets another record: the first commercial launch of this cutting-edge technology in Italy, making it available throughout the entire city of Mantua.

The 50G PON represents the world's state-of-the-art in ultra-fast connectivity in its first production-ready trimodal version, capable of supporting simultaneously the current 2.5G and 10G technologies.

Unprecedented performance: up to 25 Gbps symmetric

Thanks to the 50G PON, Mynet offers connections of up to 25 Gbps in both download and upload, which is 20 times faster than the most widespread technology today. This is a digital revolution that opens the door to new technological scenarios, significantly accelerating data transmission times.

To give an idea, it’s like moving from traditional railways to high-speed trains: with the same fiber optic infrastructure, the data transfer speed is tripled, breaking down digital distances just as high-speed trains have reduced physical distances between cities like Milan, Florence, Rome, and Naples. Sending and receiving large files, such as entire digital libraries or ultra-high-definition videos, becomes instantaneous, drastically reducing waiting times and optimizing workflow for businesses and professionals.

From laboratory to reality: 50G PON is now available for businesses

With this step, Mynet takes future technology out of the labs and makes it available for micro-enterprises with extreme bandwidth needs and ultra-low latency. The service is active in the entire city of Mantua and will soon be available in the City Life and Portello districts of Milan.

Mynet’s goal is clear: to gradually extend 50G PON across its entire proprietary network, an infrastructure of over 32,000 km of fiber optic crossing Lombardy, Veneto, Trentino-Alto Adige, and Emilia-Romagna.

The future of ultra-performance connectivity is already here. And Mynet is at the forefront of leading it.

“After the success of the experimentation, we decided to push the boundaries of connectivity further, launching this technology for the first time in the world,” says Giovanni Zorzoni, General Manager of Mynet. “Italian micro-enterprises, with 50G PON, can embrace the cloud or even create it in-house, connecting anyone to their business resources without any slowdown, with the best connectivity available on the global market today”.

Focus on micro-enterprises: a strategic choice

In the initial phase, the new technology will be reserved for micro-enterprises, businesses with up to 10 employees and 2 million in turnover, due to a specific business choice.

“This is a large segment, often overlooked by large operators, but crucial for the Italian economy,” continues Zorzoni. “Contrary to the common belief that they resist change, many micro-enterprises are investing in digital transformation, leveraging the cloud and seeking high-performance data management solutions.

With 50G PON, Mynet offers them unprecedented connectivity, optimized for traffic with national and international cloud providers, and enabling applications promised—but never delivered—by 5G. Large mobile operators have missed the opportunity with millimeter-wave 5G, which would have required serious investments that never materialized.

Also, as is the case with every technological launch phase, availability of devices and resources is initially limited. At Mynet, true to our 'grassroots' entrepreneurial history, we chose to start with micro-enterprises, offering them 50G PON under particularly favorable conditions, rewarding those who bet on digital transition”

50G PON: Technological Revolution Without Infrastructure Changes

Mynet brings 50G PON into the real world, providing next-generation connectivity without the need for massive changes to existing fiber optics, but working only on technological updates at the signal emission points.

“This technology opens new horizons for businesses, public entities, and network operators, offering ultra-performance connectivity without requiring new infrastructure investments,” adds Zorzoni. “For businesses that handle huge volumes of data, leverage cloud computing on a large scale, and require real-time business backups, 50G PON represents a turning point. But for us, there's something more: it’s not just about being pioneers at the global level, it’s about proving that a medium-sized company can make a difference by offering superior-quality networks capable of redefining speed and reliability standards.”

“On behalf of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, I want to express my appreciation for the result achieved by Mynet in the commercial launch of the 50G PON technology, demonstrated for the first time globally in these spaces,” says Dario Stabili, Cybersecurity Professor at UniMore. “This is a significant step in the Mantua area’s commitment to digital innovation, and as a professor for the Computer Engineering course offered by Unimore in this location, I can only welcome the evolution of the local technological context, hoping it will offer new opportunities for collaboration between the academic world and industrial realities.”

“As the UniverMantova Foundation, we are happy to host Mynet in our Aula Magna, where students have been graduating in one of the most innovative computer engineering programs in Italy for the past few years,” comments Luisa Lavagnini, General Coordinator of the UniverMantova Foundation. “The program, strongly focused on innovation in the fields of cybersecurity and autonomous robotics, has become particularly attractive, as demonstrated by the significant increase in enrollments. Furthermore,” concludes Lavagnini, “Mynet is an important partner for the foundation, especially for its commitment to the university’s youth.”

“The Municipality of Mantua” adds Adriana Nepote, Councilor for University and Research, Innovation, and Smart City, “is proud to celebrate a historic milestone for our city. With the launch of 50G PON by Mynet, Mantua is asserting itself as the first city in the world to have this kind of ultra-fast connectivity, a result that positions us at the forefront of the global technological landscape. Mynet is an excellence in our region, a key partner that has always demonstrated a constant commitment to innovation and technological development. Since 2022, the collaboration with Mynet has allowed us to implement ambitious projects and initiatives that have had a significant impact on our community. We are extremely satisfied with this result, which allows us to be protagonists in a digital revolution. The ultra-fast connectivity provided by 50G PON will not only improve the quality of life for our citizens but will also provide essential support to local businesses, especially micro-enterprises, who will benefit from unprecedented connectivity. This project is a great example of how public-private collaboration can generate extraordinary results and contribute to the economic and technological development of our territory.”
