Mayor Zinetti: “Smart working is essential for women; fiber optics bring new opportunities for our territory” PIUBEGA (MANTOVA) – “Today we officially inaugurate the fiber optic network in the Municipality of Piubega: an event long awaited by our community, as it finally allows all citizens to browse the Internet at much higher speeds than before. This opportunity is particularly meaningful in this historical moment marked by the pandemic, during which many can now work comfortably from home. It is especially important for women, whom we celebrate today, as it gives them the chance to work remotely while maintaining their jobs and at the same time caring for their families and children, often home from school. For this reason too, the activation of Mynet’s fiber optics brings a new development opportunity to our territory.” These were the words of Piubega’s Mayor, Maria Cristina Zinetti, this morning at the ribbon-cutting ceremony of the new Mynet fiber optic cabinet located in Via IV Novembre, which will now allow private users to browse the web at speeds up to 100 Mbit/s download and 20 Mbit/s upload. The date—March 8—was deliberately chosen by the Mantuan telco and the Municipality to celebrate fiber optics as a reliable and resilient technology standing beside women at work, in their families, and in everyday life. For the occasion, Mynet’s cabinet was adorned with mimosas, to symbolically declare that “fiber optics are female.” Mynet simultaneously activated the first private users in town, who can now surf immediately at 100/20 Mbit/s. The cabinet in Via Roma, serving the town’s outer streets, and the one in the San Fermo district were already active, with around twenty users browsing at up to 100 Mbit/s. Even the most isolated homes can now enjoy broadband, thanks to a fully renewed radio connection: Piubega’s transmitting antenna has been connected to the fiber network, ensuring stable and secure radio links reaching speeds between 30 and 50 Mbit/s. Currently, Mynet is the only operator to have activated the FTTC (Fiber To The Cabinet) service in Piubega, being the owner of the infrastructure. From now on, not only remote work and online schooling, but also digital entertainment such as low-latency gaming and high-resolution streaming become a reality.
