MYNET FIBER OPTICS REACHES COLOGNE: FIRST ACTIVATION EXPECTED AT THE END OF MARCH

COLOGNE (BRESCIA) – An ever faster, safer, and more extensive pure fiber optic network: this is the strength of Mynet, a leading telecommunications operator in northern Italy for infrastructure assets, which has been rapidly expanding throughout the province of Brescia in recent months. This unstoppable growth has now reached the center of Cologne, where in mid-January the telco began work on FTTH (Fiber To The Home) connections, providing speeds of up to 1 Gbit/s for all major municipal sites: the three schools, the town hall, the library, the recycling center, the nursery school, the sports hall, and the Civil Protection headquarters.

It is an ambitious project – involving the laying of over 5,000 meters of fiber cable, excluding the main backbone toward Palazzolo – to which will be added five smart poles across the municipal area for the installation of fiber-connected cameras powered by Mynet’s optical network. These will be activated in key areas of Cologne to improve public safety and traffic monitoring.

The completion of excavation and installation work is expected by mid-March, while activations will be finalized by early April. The goal of the municipal administration is to transform the town into a true smart city, also by extending fiber connectivity to all local businesses, as confirmed by Cologne’s Councillor for Public Works Paola Benaglio: «The infrastructures that manage web traffic have become essential in recent years, especially after the pandemic. We decided to invest in this sector because it represents the backbone for companies, citizens, and above all public education, in light of the needs created by distance learning.»
