GOTTOLENGO (BRESCIA) – A comprehensive intervention involving businesses and private homes across the territory, with the valuable coordination role of the Municipality: this is how Mynet, a telecommunications operator based in Mantua, brought fiber optics to Gottolengo, a town in the southern part of the Bassa Bresciana area. The project, completed just a few days ago after a short pause due to compliance with anti-Covid measures, enabled the connection of all municipal offices, several important local businesses, and many residential customers. Mynet teams worked on a new infrastructure extension through traditional trench excavation and installation of related manholes; they then equipped existing public lighting infrastructures and created the access network to municipal buildings. Specifically, the FTTH – Fiber To The Home (true fiber optic directly to homes) technology, highly reliable and high-performing, reached the municipal office, the comprehensive school, the kindergarten, the library, the sports hall, and the entire industrial-artisan area, offering Internet access with speeds up to 200 Mbps download and 50 Mbps upload. Numerous private users were also connected, including the Parish and the industrial area. The “Wifi4Eu” project was also completed, an initiative by the European Union that provides local authorities with financial support to enhance wireless access points in their territories. Thanks to these funds, Gottolengo will be able to count on new Wi-Fi supply points, partly coinciding with the municipal offices, both indoors and outdoors, and partly in public interest areas: including the town hall, the library, the sports hall, and the “Maestri del Lavoro” park. Mynet's intervention constitutes the starting point for further developments of the technological apparatus available to the Municipality: the authority is already considering the reconnection of surveillance cameras, as well as additional smart services for the benefit of citizens.
